The Office of the Hon. Josh Frydenberg MP, Minister for the Environment and Energy, released this media statement on 12th October confirming the Commonwealth Government’s pre-election commitment to fund community Landcare Networks until June 2018.
$2 MILLION ANNOUNCED FOR NATIONAL LANDCARE NETWORK
The Turnbull Government will invest $2 million in the National Landcare Network over the next two years to continue its support for volunteer operations across Australia.
The National Landcare Network, and peak bodies in each of the states and territories, represent Landcare groups across the country. This funding will support the network to continue its support of the important work that landcarers do, building resilient and productive landscapes and protecting our natural environment.
This $2 million investment will allow Landcare groups to support grass roots activities across the country. Volunteer landcarers spend thousands of hours each year protecting Australia’s unique species and habitats, and enhancing our agricultural lands.
The National Landcare Network funding demonstrates our ongoing support for the whole Landcare community through the $1 billion National Landcare Programme.
The National Landcare Programme is the key part of the Coalition Government’s commitment to natural resource management, which supports sustainable agriculture, environment and indigenous projects. It assists communities to deliver more sustainable agriculture and supports the protection, conservation and rehabilitation of Australia’s natural environment.
