Lead the Future of Community Landcare in Australia – Join NLN as Executive Officer

May 29, 2025

Are you passionate about strengthening community-led environmental action? Do you thrive in leadership roles that drive impact at a national scale? The National Landcare Network (NLN) is looking for an exceptional leader to step into the role of Executive Officer—and this could be your opportunity to shape the future of Landcare in Australia.

Why NLN?

The National Landcare Network represents over 6000 community-based Landcare groups and 160,000 volunteers across Australia. By working closely with State and Territory Landcare Organisations (STLOs), NLN connects, supports, and amplifies the voices of passionate Landcare groups, helping build stronger communities and healthier landscapes.

With two major Australian Government-funded projects underway—the $2M Strengthen Landcare Program and $5M Landcare 2030 Program—NLN is delivering transformative initiatives to strengthen Landcare networks and drive meaningful change.

About the Role

As Executive Officer, you will lead NLN through an exciting phase of growth, guiding strategic direction, governance, partnerships, and community engagement. You’ll collaborate closely with NLN’s Board, STLOs, and a dedicated team to ensure effective programs, strong advocacy, and lasting impact across the Landcare movement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver NLN’s strategic direction and organisational growth
  • Strengthen collaboration with STLOs and senior leadership
  • Oversee financial management, governance, and stakeholder engagement
  • Secure funding and partnerships to sustain and expand Landcare’s impact
  • Inspire and support a passionate team driving community-led conservation

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven leadership in member-based volunteer organisations (preferably in the not-for-profit, environmental, NRM or agriculture sectors)
  • Expertise in stakeholder engagement, advocacy, negotiation, and government contract management
  • Strategic planning and financial management skills
  • Ability to build partnerships, secure funding, and drive organisational success
  • Strong communication, team-building, and leadership skills

Why Apply?

This part-time (0.6 FTE) role offers $130,000–$150,000 pro rata per annum plus superannuation and allowances, with a flexible remote work arrangement and opportunities for national travel. You’ll be leading one of Australia’s most influential Landcare organisations, working alongside a dedicated team to empower thousands of community volunteers tackling climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable agriculture.

How to Apply

Applications close at 11:59 PM (AEST) Monday, 30 June 2025.

For more information contact Peter Voller (Selection Committee Chair) at peter.voller@nln.org.au / 0429312861.

Applications to be emailed to Gerry Butler (NLN Company Secretary) at secretary@nln.org.au.

This is more than a leadership role—it’s a chance to create lasting change in how Australians care for their land, water, and biodiversity. If you’re ready to make a difference, apply today.
