SUMMARY:Planning for your farm's future
DESCRIPTION:Creating sustainable\, profitable farms doesn’t happen overnight. It takes years of planning. That’s why Landcare Victoria’s next webinar is bringing in AgVic expert Alison Kelly\, to answer the question “now what?” and share actions being taken across the state to lower on-farm emissions while remaining productive and profitable. \nMany of these actions also build farm resilience and can help farmers adapt to an increasingly extreme climate. SUMMARY:Effective and ethical conservation
DESCRIPTION:Much work on human–wildlife conflict focuses on safeguarding wildlife from humans and vice versa\, protecting humans\, their crops\, livestock and property from wildlife\, and mitigating negative\,\nsometimes lethal encounters\, instilling the notion of humans and wild animals as adversaries. \nThis conflict has been perceived as the norm\, with coexistence a distant ideal. This way of seeing ignores the many ways people have coexisted with wildlife and co-adapted with wild animals in multispecies landscapes for generations. \nJoin us as we explore how greater attention to Indigenous and traditional experiences and knowledge\, and paying attention to coexistence\, can reshape an understanding of human-wildlife interactions that decenter humans to actively support ethical conservation. \nGuest speaker: Dr Helina Jolly\, Assistant Professor\, Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources\, University of Vermont USA \nFacilitator: Professor Owen Nevin\, The Western Australian Biodiversity Science Institute (WABSI)

SUMMARY:Calculating on-farm emissions
DESCRIPTION:Nationally and internationally\, governments and companies are making net zero commitments\, driving demand for low emissions agricultural products. Understanding your on-farm emissions can help you access emerging markets\, understand on-farm opportunities and increase your productivity\, all while improving the environment. \nFor our next webinar\, agronomist and farmer Cam Nicholson will take you through a new\, simple calculator from Agricultural Innovation Australia (AIA) and will give you a step-by-step guide to calculating your on-farm emissions. Cam will be joined by landcarers and farmers\, who will share their experience and tips for calculating their on-farm emissions. Their learnings and productivity gains may surprise you. \nCalculating your on-farm emissions can seem daunting. But knowing your number is the first step in considering how your farm can be sustainable in years to come. Whether you want to inset or offset\, knowing your number will help you understand your power in the supply chain.

SUMMARY:Why Queensland Should Exempt Nature Refuges From Land Tax - Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Queensland landholders play a critical role in safeguarding species\, sequestering carbon\, and maintaining healthy landscapes – whilst also contributing to state and national conservation goals. \nDespite delivering these public benefits\, many private landholders miss out on land tax exemptions that other landholders enjoy: Queensland is the only state in Australia that still levies land tax on land protected with a Nature Refuge. \nJoin our free webinar to hear from policy experts and conservation leaders about how a simple policy change could boost Nature Refuge uptake and deliver stronger outcomes for Queensland’s special biodiversity.

SUMMARY:Mental health in times of climate chaos
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a thoughtful discussion on the mental health impacts of climate change – and how we can support one another and build resilience in the face of growing climate challenges. \n\nClimate change is putting serious strain on our mental health. Extreme weather events like bushfires\, floods\, and heatwaves are becoming more frequent and intense\, affecting people across Australia and adding pressure to an already stretched health system. \n\nThe mental toll comes not only from direct impacts but also from ongoing worry about the future. Constant exposure to distressing news can cause anxiety\, grief\, and hopelessness. \n\nThese events can lead to serious mental health issues – notably for children and young people\, but also for anyone impacted by our changed climate – including anxiety\, depression\, PTSD\, and substance use. \n\nThis webinar will explore these complex issues and consider ways to care for our mental health – and each other – amid the growing realities of climate disruption.

SUMMARY:Fungi for Landcarers
DESCRIPTION:Landcarers know that healthy bushland is resilient due to the myriad of interactions between our animals\, fungi\, plants and microbes. The plethora of benefits fungi provide range from providing essential nutrients to plants\, environmental protection and restoration and  improved efficiency in agriculture. \nJoin the WALN Team and special guest\, Julie Fielder to discuss all things fungi. A mycologist who has worked with plants and fungi across Australia. Her personal passion is the soil mycobiome\, and its ecological relationships with plants and soil chemistry. \nJulie is an author of the first practical guide for integrating fungi into conservation and restoration for land managers\, Fungi4Land. This awesome project is being spearheaded by Dr Sapphire McMullan-Fisher and Roz Hart.
