DESCRIPTION:This ARI seminar looks at the recent Western Victoria bushfires with a biodiversity lens. \nUsing case studies of threatened species\, we will explore how biodiversity values are identified\, monitored\, and addressed during a bushfire event. Rather than providing a full overview of the Western fires\, it offers insights from three individuals involved in the biodiversity response. \n  \nFor this seminar\, we are lucky to have: \n\nDr Sarah Garnick (DEECA Biodiversity) sharing aspects of DEECA’s rapid risk assessment and her role in leading a small mammal prioritization workshop.\nDr David Cantrill (Royal Botanic Gardens) discussing the complex process of flora recovery from planning\, response to recovery through the case study of the Mt Cole Grevillea.\nMarcello Bold (Parks Victoria) enlightening us on the onground actions Parks Victoria led to support threatened species including supplementary habitat and monitoring programs.

DESCRIPTION:Landcarers know that healthy bushland is resilient due to the myriad of interactions between our animals\, fungi\, plants and microbes. The plethora of benefits fungi provide range from providing essential nutrients to plants\, environmental protection and restoration and  improved efficiency in agriculture. \nJoin the WALN Team and special guest\, Julie Fielder to discuss all things fungi. A mycologist who has worked with plants and fungi across Australia. Her personal passion is the soil mycobiome\, and its ecological relationships with plants and soil chemistry. \nJulie is an author of the first practical guide for integrating fungi into conservation and restoration for land managers\, Fungi4Land. This awesome project is being spearheaded by Dr Sapphire McMullan-Fisher and Roz Hart. Some of you may remember Roz did a fantastic presentation on their project at our annual gathering at the Wetlands Centre in 2024.
