Supporting National Landcare Organisations – 2030 Program
The Natural Heritage Trust (NHT) is the main way the Australian Government invests in environmental protection, sustainable agriculture and natural resource management.
The current phase of the NHT provides $1.1 billion funding with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry to deliver on-ground projects and includes a $5 million investment in the Supporting National Landcare Organisations Program administered through the National Landcare Network. Projects under the current phase will run over the 5 years until 30 June 2028 and will address issues of climate change, habitat loss and invasive species and their impact.
The objective of the Grant is to:
- Provide support for National Landcare Organisations to maintain operational capacity and capability;
- Ensure National Landcare Organisations are primed to deliver NHT outcomes, including delivering climate-smart, sustainable agriculture actions and protecting and restoring the environment and biodiversity efficiently and at scale; and
- Utilise National Landcare Organisations to strengthen First Nations engagement and participation in NHT projects.
The activity will support the following outcomes:
Outcome 1: More sustainable, productive, internationally competitive and profitable Australian agricultural, food and fibre industries through policies and initiatives that promote better resource management practices, innovation, self-reliance and improved access to international markets.
Outcome 2: Conserve, protect and sustainably manage our natural resources including through a nature positive approach; protect and conserve our natural and cultural heritage; reduce and regulate the use of pollutants and hazardous substances; and take a leadership role on these issues internationally.
