After the great impact in 2024 of planting 106,500 native trees across the country, the Bupa Landcare Grants Program are back, supporting urban and peri-urban tree planting projects across Australia!

NLN is pleased to announce the launch of the Two-Way Initiative—a collaborative journey between Landcare and the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC). Last year, we formalised our partnership through a Statement of Collaboration, outlining our shared vision and commitment to working together to care for Country.

Understanding the Landcare ecosystem isn’t always easy. With its rich and complex web of community groups, government partnerships, non-profits, businesses, and other supporting organisations, it can be a challenge to explain—let alone navigate. That’s why the Landcare Facilitator Program has focused on creating something visual, practical, and powerful: stakeholder maps tailored to each state and territory, supporting national advocacy and stakeholder engagement.

It’s a great opportunity to raise awareness about the environmental, community, and wellbeing benefits of caring for our land and waterways. Nestled in the heart of the Gondwana Link, amidst the Wandoo and Jarrah woodlands, lies a sanctuary of hope and revival. The Balijup feral predator-free enclosure, affectionately called “The Sanctuary,” is a testament to the transformative power of landcare and citizen science. The Balijup Citizen Science Program for 2025, coordinated through WALN Member Groups, Green Skills and the Conservation Council of WA is highlighting the great work done by Quenda as ecosystem engineers, altering soil structure and enhancing ecosystem processes such as nutrient cycling and plant regeneration.

This August, Landcare ACT invites environmental volunteers, community leaders, and changemakers from across the region to gather on Ngunawal Country in Canberra for a two-day celebration of regeneration, connection, and community action at the ACT Volunteers Conference (August 8-9).

As NAIDOC Week approaches, we’re pleased to share another inspiring story of collaboration and care for Country. This month, the North Coast Regional Landcare Network launched their place-based yarning workshops happening across the North Coast, starting with their first in Lismore, in partnership with Richmond Landcare Inc..

South Australian landcare legends Gerry Butler and Uncle John Chester spoke in an ABC radio interview today about their Landcare Listening Tour – an initiative focused on listening to and connecting with Indigenous communities on the Eyre Peninsula in SA. Through their listening tour, they aim to better understand the issues facing homelands, build on existing projects that are working and to strengthen partnerships in land management that will provide cultural, economic and environmental benefits for communities.
