Celebrating Global Connections During National Volunteer Week

Australian Landcare Volunteers Driving Global Impact

During National Volunteer Week we celebrate our volunteers and partners- both locally and globally. From local communities in Australia to smallholder farmers in Africa and Asia, the Landcare movement is creating tangible solutions to our planet’s greatest environmental challenges. Australian Landcarers are actively supporting communities beyond our borders. Over 100 Landcare volunteers have donated to Global Landcare’s fund, enabling landcare groups around the world to thrive through financial and knowledge-sharing support. These contributions ensure that local projects worldwide gain the tools, training, and partnerships they need to create lasting change.

NLN’s partnership with Global Landcare means greater opportunities for Australian Landcarers to engage with international networks, share expertise, and participate in joint events and initiatives. Through workshops, mentoring programs, and collaborative projects, this partnership accelerates knowledge-sharing and drives deeper global connections. By working together, the National Landcare Network and Global Landcare are building resilience in communities facing climate change, biodiversity loss, and extreme weather events, aligning their missions with the Global Biodiversity Framework and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).

In places like Congo, Uganda, and Timor-Leste, volunteers are changing lives. Grace, a volunteer from Congo’s Seeds of Hope project, shares how Landcare has supported women in her community to grow better food and send their children to school. Emmanuel, from Uganda’s Kween District Bee Keeping and Land Management project, highlights how sustainable land management has improved honey yields and controlled erosion. These stories showcase how volunteering empowers communities and creates lasting environmental solutions.

With over 25 countries involved in Global Landcare—including Germany, Iceland, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kenya, Japan, Canada, and Jamaica—this movement continues to expand and create lasting impacts worldwide. Volunteers’ knowledge-sharing strengthens communities, builds resilience, and fosters innovation in sustainable land management.

Together, we are proving that local actions lead to global outcomes—and through this partnership, we will continue to grow and accelerate our impact for years to come.
