Strengthening Landcare Through Regional Connections in NSW

Jun 3, 2025

What do the Harvest Festival, Muster, Landcare Adventure, and Hollow Hog have in common? They are all powerful examples of communities coming together to strengthen Landcare at the regional scale.

Recognising the value of partnerships and capacity-building, the NSW Landcare Enabling Program’s Regional Community of Practice Events funding is supporting initiatives that bring people together, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Since January 2025, this funding has helped kickstart a diverse range of events, each designed to meet the specific needs of the region while encouraging broad engagement.

In the New England and North West regions of NSW, the annual Landcare Adventure has become a key gathering, allowing participants to exchange insights on farming and biodiversity conservation. The Mid-Coast to Tops region launched the Ignite Change event, introducing the Ecoburn Education Program, a step forward in sustainable land management practices.

Local groups have strengthened their impact through Evaluation Training, Project Management, and Grant Writing workshops—ensuring that both paid staff and volunteers grow their skills side by side. Greater Sydney will celebrate its dedicated volunteers at the Regional Landcare and Bushcare Awards, while a Hollow Hog Demonstration will unite Landcare enthusiasts in the Central West through an inspiring habitat restoration initiative.

Other major highlights include the Riverina Harvest Festival, the South East Muster for Landcare and Partners, and the South East Local Leaders program, all working towards the common goal of bringing communities together in 2025.

Through these efforts, regional events remain a vital force in driving connection, learning, and action for Landcare. With many more exciting events on the horizon, NSW Landcare continues to pave the way for a stronger, more united future in land stewardship.
