Unifying Forces: Landcare’s Volunteer Working Group Takes Off

Apr 28, 2025

The National Landcare Volunteering Initiative working group held its first meeting in April, bringing together STLO representatives from across the country. The session surfaced shared challenges and opportunities, from reducing the administrative burden on volunteers to strengthening recruitment pathways and measuring our collective impact.

A key focus of the working group is building a shared understanding of how each peak body currently supports volunteers — including services like insurance, training, governance support, and wellbeing initiatives — with a national comparison matrix now in development. The group will continue working together to align on definitions, build shared data practices, and advocate for the support systems that enable Landcare groups to thrive.

The discussion was thoughtful and constructive and highlighted a shared commitment to progress cooperation for Landcare across the nation — an exciting foundation for the months ahead and the working group model that will roll out over the coming months.
